Vordingborg

Vordingborg
The Essential
This little trading town has a lively, modern centre, laid out around the pedestrian street, Algade. The medieval castle (Slotsruin med Tårn, access via Glambæksvej, on the left when you arrive in town), perched on a hillock overlooking the sea, still has its brick ramparts, a keep nicknamed the Goose Tower (Gåsetårnet) in memory of the golden goose King Valdemar IV had built on top of it after its construction in 1360. The Vor Frue Kirke (Church of Our Lady) boasts a few frescoes as well as an altarpiece by sculptor, Abel Schrøder the Younger (17C) from Næstved.
