Ida-Viru County

The Essential
Narva's history is inextricably linked to Russia's, as the city is separated from it only by the River Narva. It felt the full force of the bombings of the Second World War and few of its lovely buildings survived. Nowadays, visitors flock to this jewel in the city's crown, the castle, which mirrors Ivangorod Fortress on the other side of the river, and the Baroque town hall, all that remains of Narva's bygone splendour.
