When to go
If you want to amble about Strasbourg's Old Town or along the Rhine, go in the mild spring, bright from the month of April onwards, not to mention less rainy than you might imagine. Autumn also promises some lovely days but it is often foggy.
In any case, avoid the stormy and very hot summers, when the city is stifling as pollution levels spike, unless you have a hankering to see the nightly cathedral illuminations.
Those who wish to experience the magic of the Christmas market will have the whole month of December; winter is cold, even harsh, and snow is by no means a rarity, which adds to the charm of the event.
Two or three things to bear in mind before choosing your dates: prices double (or triple) during the Christmas market, hotels are full during parliamentary sessions, and lots of restaurants and bars close for two or three weeks from the end of July.
