Marmoutier abbey church

A jewel of Alsace Romanesque architecture, the abbey church in Marmoutier boasts a beautiful façade built from red sandstone from the Vosges. Inside, the narthex, which is crowned by domes, is the only remaining Romanesque feature. The bright Gothic nave leads to the choir with its fine wood carving in the Louis XV stalls. The remains of a pre-Carolingian church were discovered beneath the transept (entry via the crypt). Don't miss the original organs (1710) made by André Silbermann, among the finest in Alsace.
