Beynac-and Cazenac Castle

Recommended
Perched at an altitude of 150m on one of the most impressive cliffs of the Dordogne valley, Beynac-et-Cazenac castle (13C-17C) faces its rival, Castelnaud, across the river. This old fortress was much fought over, especially during the Hundred Years War when the River Dordogne marked the border between lands controlled by the English and those under French control. The narrow streets and architecture are typical of the Middle Ages and the walk around the battlements offers fine views.
