When to go
Ideally, visit Bordeaux from April to October. Thanks to the mild climate, it can be very pleasant to sit on a sunny terrace as early as the start of spring. In June, Bordeaux celebrates wines or the river, depending on the year. For the Épicuriales, great chefs propose cookery courses and refined dishes in the superb setting of the Allées de Tourny, all at reasonable prices. Press on to nearby Saint-Émilion to see the procession of red robes for the Spring Festival of the Jurade.
In summer the time is ripe to take a peaceful stroll in the cool little streets of the historical centre, escape for a short cruise and have family fun on the Miroir d'Eau. In September and early October, the grape harvest period, a walk in Bordeaux's vinyeards is a must. In October, in the historical area of Les Chartrons, the Fête du Vin Nouveau et de la Brocante has a real carnival atmosphere.
