Porte Cailhau

Interesting
Built in 1495, this theatrical triumphal arch mixes decorative and defensive elements and was dedicated to Charles VIII. The name Cailhau probably comes from the word "cailloux" (meaning "pebbles") that the River Garonne deposited near this spot. Inside, there is an exhibition on the history and urban development of Bordeaux and, on the top floor, a view over the Garonne and the Pont de Pierre.
