This quintessentially Southern city exudes an ambience of carefree goodwill. It's a great place for strolling about the narrow medieval streets lined with half-timbered houses and shady little squares or along the boulevards. But Agen is far from sleepy. Major works are ongoing to enhance the assets of this city framed by the embankment paths of the Garonne and the Canal de Garonne used by bicycle-tourists, pilgrims and hikers. The last weekend in August the city celebrates its emblematic prune with a festival.
