Charroux

Ensconced behind its fortified gates, Charroux (413m above sea level) commands a fantastic panoramic view over the Chaîne des Puys to the south and the Limagne plain to the north. Its traditional mustard, used by the greatest chefs, is turning Charroux into an international name. To best soak up the charm of the medieval buildings and cobbled streets, stop for dinner here or, even better, stay overnight.
