This picturesque old settlement is set on the shores of a broad lake and dominated by an imposing feudal fortress. Combourg is inextricably linked with one of the great French Romantics, François-René de Chateaubriand, who lived in the castle. This is how he described it: "Dungeons and keeps, a labyrinth of passageways, of walled-up tunnels (...), everywhere is silence, darkness and stone: such is the castle of Combourg". It is easy to understand how he found his inspiration!
