Both a prestigious wine producer and a city of art, Beaune was the capital of Burgundy before Dijon. Fortified as of 1368, it still has its ramparts from that era, and the bastions now house Burgundy's best-known cellars: the famous Hospices. Every year, the Hospices de Beaune wine auction is as much a society event as a wine fair. The narrow streets teem with wine bars, trendy restaurants and little boutiques. An unforgettable visit!
