Birthplace of Nicéphore Niépce, father of photography, Chalon-sur-Saône is the second largest town of Burgundy. Its historic centre is best explored on foot along pedestrian streets, dotted with countless squares very popular among the town's youth. We recommend crossing the Saône over to St Laurent Island for a splendid view of the town and its pretty wharfs. There is no lack of famous vineyards in the region.
