St-Philibert de Tournus Abbey

Recommended
Built between the 10C and the 12C, this abbey is quite remarkable. The nave of the church is bathed in pink light and the transept and chancel bear witness to the rapid evolution of Romanesque art with their white stone. The abbey buildings (pantry, refectory, chapter house) are carefully laid out around the cloister, while the late 15C abbot's lodgings are close by. The 10C crypt and its deep well are also worth a look.
