Château d'Ainay-le-Vieil

Souvenirs of Napoleon's Egyptian campaign and the scent of roses distinguish this characterful castle, where the Middle Ages and the Renaissance blend in remarkable harmony. Nicknamed "little Carcassonne" on account of its postern gate and ramparts, this fortress (like its big sister in the south of the country) seems impregnable. Don't miss its lovely fragrant rose garden, English-style park magnificent old trees and themed gardens.
