Birthplace of Ronsard, Vendôme, a secretive Little Venice, overlooks the Loir and the valley. The white stone town has preserved a few of its 13C-15C wooden buildings, along with a former abbey in the Late Gothic style. In the outskirts, the rolling hills and well-hidden villages are rich in surprises: tiny churches adorned with Romanesque frescoes, abandoned keeps and isolated castles, troglodytic houses and of course, the famous Vendôme gris wine.
