St Etienne Cathedral, Châlons-en-Champagne

Recommended
The cathedral is pure Gothic in style, particularly on its north side, although only the Romanesque tower remains from the previous cathedral which was destroyed by fire in 1230. The nave, flooded with light, has a sensation of lightness with its slender triforium crowned by large windows. Beautiful stained glass bears witness to the development of this art from the 12C-16C. A few works of art are displayed in the transept and choir, including a majestic 17C baldaquin above the high altar and several superb Gothic tombstones.
