The island of Lavezzi and a hundred or so islets and reefs form an archipelago around 4km/2.5mi from the Pointe de Sperone, southeast of Bonifacio. Part of the archipelago is now a nature reserve with restricted access to protect flora and fauna. This miniature paradise of sandy creeks and crystal-clear water has an almost lunar appearance and some of its giant granite boulders are reminiscent of an imaginary bestiary. Its flora includes rare species, such as the ill-smelling "pig's ear".
