The small town of Arbois, presided over by the bell tower of the church, Église St Just, stands proud among the vineyards, at the threshold of a magnificent blind valley. The AOC classification of its wines in 1936 contributed to the success of the Jura's vineyards. Former winegrowers' houses line the square, and the numerous wine cellars draw in wine lovers. Be sure to visit the family home and laboratory of Pasteur, a native of the region, who worked here on wine fermentation and other matters.
