Petit Trianon

Recommended
The Château du Petit Trianon, a masterpiece by Gabriel, was commissioned by Louis XV for his mistress, Madame Pompadour, although the building's importance dates from 1774 when Louis XVI presented it as a gift to Marie-Antoinette. Completely remodelled for the queen, the Anglo-Chinese gardens provided her with an intimate setting complete with "lakes" and "rivers", a small hamlet and pavilions such as the Temple de l'Amour (1778) which houses a sculpture by Bouchardon, Cupid carving a Bow from the Club of Hercules.
