Saint-Germain-en-Laye
The Essential
Recommended
Henri II, Charles IX and Louis XIV were all born here, Louis XIII died here, and most of the kings of France lived in the castle of St-Germain, until Louis XIV moved to Versailles in 1682. The royal castle houses important archaeological collections dating from the beginning of our era to the Middle Ages. Take a stroll through the old town and discover its discreet charm: townhouses hidden behind old carriage entrances, the birthplace of Debussy, and the old priory, which is now home to a museum dedicated to the Nabi painters.
