Grounds of the Palace of Versailles

Highly recommended
Envious of the sumptuous gardens created by Fouquet at Vaux-le-Vicomte, Louis XIV commissioned Le Nôtre to create these magnificent gardens at Versailles. In just a few years, the famous landscape gardener had produced a stunning creation which was all the more remarkable considering the marshy nature of the site. The Grandes Eaux water show allows visitors to admire this masterpiece in full, while the more intimate Petit Trianon and Marie-Antoinette's house depict a way of life inspired by the freedom of thought characterised by the Age of Enlightenment.
