Caissargues
The Essential
This small village became famous thanks to its motorway service area, where you can admire the neo-Classical columns of Nîmes' Roman theatre which have been rebuilt here on the Le Vistre plain. This is all that remains of the building which was once the counterpart to the Maison Carrée and which was destroyed by fire in 1952. Also of interest is the Lady of Caissargues, a curled-up skeleton of a female aged between 25 and 30, which dates from 5000 BC and is housed in the archaeologicalmuseum.
