Useful information : When to go...
When to go
In Hérault, the sun burns bright in summer and you are liable to get very hot, except perhaps up in the mountains. It's the season for walks in the hinterland, bathing in the sea, and nautical jousts in Sète, Agde and Palavas-les-Flots, a family-friendly show.
Winter, milder near the coast than towards Haut-Languedoc, promises some fine days. Bear in mind, nonetheless, that the wind can be freezing.
Autumn and spring may be damper, but they are still very pleasant. Nature is decked out in unforgettably splendid colours, the grape harvest means there is still some activity, and the sites of interest are less busy than in summer.
Montpellier is a special case, with much to offer year round: the town is lively thanks to numerous festivals during summer, and the student population bridges the gap the rest of the time.
