When to go
If you like it hot, and are on the lookout for a destination that promises sunshine, sea and outdoor activities, Languedoc-Roussillon in summer is just the ticket… but you won't have the place to yourself. Lozère and the Gard and Hérault hinterlands, however, remain less busy during that period, and the mountain atmosphere less stifling. Watch out for storms, however. Occitan and Catalan festivals and a full programme of festivities continues throughout July and August.
Winter may be mild and Mediterranean on the coast, but it can be quite harsh inland. In the mountains, it snows, heralding the ski – and snowshoeing – season, in Lozère and the Pyrenees.
Autumn and spring also promise fine weather, despite sometimes heavy rains and violent winds. The landscapes are radiant clad in their tawny hues. During the grape harvests, numerous events celebrate the harvests.
