Mende Cathedral

Interesting
The interior of this cathedral has been rebuilt several times (notably after the attack by the Protestants on Christmas Eve 1579). Its three naves are flanked by 15 side chapels. Note the different kinds of wood panelling, the Aubusson tapestries and the 11C Black Virgin brought back from the East by the crusaders. Under the nave is the tomb and crypt of St Privat. The two bell towers, one finely sculpted in Italian Renaissance style, the other showing greater sobriety, provide a sharp contrast.
