This little town owes it place in the history books to Louis XV: in 1745, his mistress Mme Le Normant d'Étiolles was gifted the Pompadour estate, complete with the title of marquise. In 1761 Louis XV established a stud farm, future cradle of the Anglo-Arab breed, earning Arnac-Pompadour the nickname "Horse City". Racing fans can visit the National Stables and enjoy the host of equestrian events held over the summer.
