Church of St-Pierre
The church of St Peter (12C) is one of the rare remaining vestiges of the Benedictine monastery, founded in the 9C and a major centre of pilgrimage. The sandstone church illustrates all the architectural influences prevailing in the Limousine region and in southwest France. Its beauty lies mainly in its southern portal (12C), one of the earliest masterpieces of Romanesque sculpture. Inside the church, a treasury contains a 12C statue of a Virgin with child, made of wood covered in silver leaf.
