The inhabitants owe the fame of their village to one Gaston Vuillier (1845-1915), a now forgotten artist whose watercolours highlighted the beauty of the Corrèze landscapes. In the late 19C, the artist laid out a waymarked path through unspoiled gorges. It was thus that in 1912, the Gimel Falls became the first natural protected site of France. A walk you go through the lovely parks will take you to the best viewpoints of the falls; a good hour's walk in all.
