Lorraine

Lorraine
The Essential
You will need a pair of sturdy shoes to explore Lorraine! From historical and industrial north Lorraine to the more "natural" south Lorraine, this astounding region may often be neglected in favour of neighbouring Alsace, but it is an excellent destination.
The region's towns have some great treats in store for visitors: the dazzling Place Stanislas in Nancy, Art Nouveau capital, the Centre Pompidou-Metz, the flamboyant Toul Cathedral, the Renaissance town of Bar-le-Duc and the Baccarat Crystal Museum are just a few examples.
The vestiges of various chapters of history that played out here won't fail to impress you either: the tragic battlefields of Verdun and the forts of the Maginot Line serve as poignant reminders of the absurdity of war.
After these emotional moments, walks in the region's hills, plains, and forests offer a change of scene. And if you need fresh air and clear waters, the Vosges Mountains and the spa resorts fit the bill!
