The Hackenburg fort

The Hackenberg is the largest fortification along the Maginot Line, able to shelter 1 200 men. Its 2 entrance blocks, 17 combat blocks, the enormous "anti-blast" door, central station with its lofty arches, miles of galleries and huge electrical room can all be visited on a tourist train. Reconstructions of the kitchens, infirmary and firing command post add to the atmosphere. The museum also exhibits weaponry and uniforms from units engaged in the battle for France. The visit also includes a demonstration of the eclipse gun turret.
