Abbaye aux Hommes

Recommended
The Abbaye-aux-Hommes, an 11C historical and architectural masterpiece, is remarkable for its elegance. A genuine monument of Romanesque art, the church of Saint-Étienne, founded by William the Conqueror, is depicted by a facade of striking sobriety, which counterbalances the soaring twin towers. The ducal palace, 14C but remodelled in the 19C, now houses an art library, while the monastic buildings, well rebuilt in the 18C, have not lost their lovely woodwork.
