Interesting
Both martyr and miracle, 80% of the capital of the Pays d'Auge was destroyed by American bombs. A lively market town with numerous fairs since the Middle Ages and seat of the diocese, Lisieux was rich in churches and palaces. This all changed in 1877 with the arrival of a little 4-year-old girl, one Thérèse Martin. Her canonisation in 1925 and the basilica devoted to her were largely responsible for the town's current reputation.
