The town, surrounded by medieval ramparts, overlooks the Garonne river basin from its rocky peak, with the foothills of the Pyrenean Piedmont as a backdrop. The narrow streets in the upper town are filled with arts and craft shops, boutiques and half-timbered houses. From the cloister of Ste-Marie Cathedral, reaching 515m/1,689ft, you can glimpse the snowy peaks of Cagire, Gar and Montsacon. The lower town, more ''authentic'' and with fewer tourists, has maintained its ancestral farming and pastoral activities.
