Tarbes

Tarbes
The Essential
The second largest city in the Midi-Pyrenées region and capital of the Bigorre, Tarbes has been renowned for its "tarbais" horses since the 19C. The horses, housed in the national stud here, are much appreciated by the hussar regiments which have been based in the town since 1963. This dynamic city was the birthplace of the writer Théophile Gautier, author of Capitaine Fracasse, in 1811, and of Maréchal Foch in 1851.
