When to go
Spring is the best season for a holiday in Midi-Pyrénées: there are fewer visitors than during the summer, and a mild and temperate climate reigns over most of the region. It is pleasant to hike in the low mountains or take a cruise on the rivers and canals.
In the Albigeois, Toulousain, Lot and Gers, summer is sometimes scorching, often interspersed with violent storms. Nonetheless, it remains the season to opt for if you want to experience the music festivals organised here (in Conques, Cordes-sur-Ciel, Moissac), traditional fêtes (Médiévales de Gourdon) or gastronomical fairs (wine in Gaillac). The region is not at its best in autumn: this is the rainiest season, and the period of the terrible Autan wind. Rather wait for winter, when you can show off your skiing prowess in the resorts of the Pyrenees!
