Carennac Castle

Right next to St Pierre church, the 16C Château de Carennac consists of a main section flanked with corner turrets and a gallery built above the Gothic chapels of the church. The French writer Fénélon, who wrote Les Aventures de Télémaque, once lived here; one of the towers is named after this work (said to have been written here) and the island facing the austere building overlooking the River Dordogne has been renamed the Île de Calypso. The building is also home to the Espace Patrimoine, which presents exhibitions related to the Dordogne.
