St-Pierre de Carennac church

Interesting
The finest feature of the Romanesque Église St Pierre de Carennac is its 12C doorway. In terms of its craftsmanship, the tympanum is akin to those of Beaulieu, Moissac, Collonges and Cahors. Surrounded by the symbols of the four Evangelists, Christ, in majesty, set in a mandorla, symbolises the glory of God. On each side, the apostles are arranged on two stacked registers, while two angels bowing down feature on the upper register. Small animals frame the whole thing.
