Local Mining Museum

At Camp-Grand, the pithead frame of shaft n°2 and its adjoining buildings dating from 1891 are all that remains of this former coal mine. A tour of the site allows visitors to learn all about the difficult and dangerous work undertaken by the miners here, with 348m of reconstructed underground galleries providing information on mining and the different methods used to extract coal in the 19C. This visit to the "black holes" of the Carmaux coal basin offers a realistic and touching introduction to coal mining.
