When to go
Nantes has a cultural calendar fit to turn even the largest cities green with envy. There is always something on, and the mild climate seems to be conducive to making merry! These factors make Nantes a city worth exploring throughout the year.
The many parks and gardens, nurtured by the mild temperatures and frequent but gentle rainfall, are best visited in spring. This is also the season to take a boat trip on the Erdre or the Île de Nantes, or follow the Voyage à Nantes trail, which takes you to the unmissable sites.
Late August sees the festival on the banks of the Erdre, and the Île de Versailles hosts dozens of free jazz concerts.
Activity continues in winter with the Folle Journée de Nantes, a classical music festival held in early February. And if it rains, simply head to the Galerie des Machines and get acquainted with the weird and wonderful creatures housed there.
