Vendée

Vendée
The Essential
Vendée traditionally calls to mind fine sandy beaches that stretch the length of the Atlantic coast, from the Île de Noirmoutier as far as the Pointe de l'Aiguillon. As for seaside resorts, Les Sables d'Olonne wins hands down; off the coast, the Île d'Yeu offers the opportunity for a bracing walk by the ocean.
But nowadays Vendée has also come to signify Puy du Fou. This theme park may tend to steal the limelight, and yet Vendée is home to many other, more understated, treasures, like the bocage, whose paths are dotted with windmills, abbeys and châteaux, or the very fine Historial de la Vendée, a fascinating museum that charts the history of this département.
