St Pierre Cathedral, Beauvais

Highly recommended
This cathedral is one of the masterpieces of Gothic art in northern France, unique in terms of its size and unfinished state. Only the chancel (13C) and transept (finished in 1550) were built. Views of the huge vaults 48m up are vertiginous. The astronomical clock, built from 1865 to 1868 by Louis-Auguste Vérité, has 90 000 parts: 52 faces show the seasons, length of days and nights etc.
