Creil
The Essential
An industrial, relatively graceless town today, the centre of Creil is an island on the River Oise, once the site of an 8C royal castle, fortified in the 14C by Charles V. The porcelain factory of Creil, founded in 1797, was merged with that of Montereau in 1840, both producing similar wares. Creil was closed in 1895 and Montereau in 1955.
