A royal city in the Middle Ages, Senlis's history can be traced back to the Gallo-Roman period. Vestiges of its medieval past and the building built by the bishops still grace its streets, which used to be sleepy, but are now brought to life, at weekends in particular, by tourists who have got the bug for this old town. Wandering about the narrow streets lined with handsome residential buildings is a joy; stop to eat at one of the outside tables of a café in this town full of character and only 50km from Paris.
