Valloires Abbey and Gardens

Nestled in the Authie valley, the abbey stands in a site of outstanding beauty, in accordance with Cistercian tradition. You can admire the superb grating in the chancel inside the Baroque church and the wood panelling in the sacristy, in the Louis XV Rococo style. Stroll in the various gardens, designed by Gilles Clément, where the plants are classified according to their traits: formal gardens, "Island Gardens", "Garden of Five Senses" and a space named after Lamarck, the botanist who was the first to expound a theory on the evolution of living beings.
