La Coubre Lighthouse
Rebuilt three times since 1860 on account of shifting dunes, the Coubre Lighthouse stands imposingly on the Pointe de la Coubre, marking the entrance to the Gironde, the largest estuary in Europe. Having climbed the 300 steps to the top, admire the superb view of the Cordouan Lighthouse, Coubre forest and Ile d'Oléron. At the foot of lighthouse, an eco-museum retraces the history of the headland's lighthouses and presents a small exhibition of the items needed to operate them.
