When to go
Summer in the Bouches-du-Rhône is synonymous with sun and heat, and equally with an influx of tourists. Then there is the fact that during this period the forests are subject to tight access restrictions because of the risk of fires. Therefore, unless you want to go to one of the festivals that take place in July and August in Arles or La Roque-d'Anthéron, for example, we would recommend you visit this département in spring or autumn.
In spring the landscape is lush, thanks to the odd shower. You can plan on taking a swim and enjoying lunch al fresco, just as you can in autumn when the sun takes its time setting.
And have no fear: in winter all you'll need is a good windbreaker to explore the region, as the weather is cold and mostly dry. You can even bring along your sunglasses when strolling around the foires aux santons (traditional Provençal Christmas markets), which are put on in December.
