"Mountains touching the sky and plunging valleys": Vauban was ecstatic when he discovered this place. No fewer than four valleys (Guisane, Clarée, Durance and Cerveyrette) converge here and the hills rise to 2 000m. TheClarée Valley and the Rroute de l'Izoard should not be missed. Visitors should also see the fortified town on Briançon and climb the Col de Granon, from the top of which there is a view of the Briançonnais mountains and the lofty Écrins range.
