When to go
When to go:
The emblematic festivals of Avignon, Orange or Vaison-la-Romaine take place in July-August. But if you are not interested in attending these, and prefer to avoid both suffocating summer heat and crowds, come to Vaucluse from Easter to June or September to 1 November (Toussaint bank holiday). During these periods, the mild temperatures are just right for walks in the great outdoors, and the market stalls are stacked with wonderful fruits and vegetables. In autumn, the scent of the lavender wafts from the fields. Only a few heavy storms can sometimes occur.
Winter can also bring beautiful days, except when the mistral blows, and cover Mont Ventoux with snow!
