Écrins National Park
Spanning the northern and southern Alps, this national park, created in 1973, is the biggest and highest of France. Riddled by deep valleys, this immense mineral, plant and wildlife breeding ground (some 227,000 acres) features 150 peaks some 10,000ft high, 40 glaciers and 460mi of signposted trails. Alpine villages, meadows, lakes and waterfalls to the delight of climbers, skiers and wild flora and fauna lovers.
