The Essential
Less fashionable than its neighbour St Tropez, Sainte Maxime is a pleasant family seaside resort. The old town, with its colourful façades and cobbled alleyways, is a refuge from the sun beating down on the nearby beaches. The vibrant pedestrian centre has plenty of shady squares, both big and small, refreshing fountains and morning markets laden with tasty-looking produce. The Promenade Simon Lorière affords lovely views over St Tropez. Sainte Maxime has also preserved a rich architectural heritage with its Belle Époque villas, built between 1920 and 1940.
